European day of languages

Today the 26th September is European Day of Languages.

The European Day of Languages is a celebration of the amazing number and variety of languages spoken across Europe. This day promotes language learning and to celebrate the linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe.

At nursery we have been busy designing our own flags by mark making and creating our own artistic work. We explored flags from around the world and learnt interesting facts about the countries Whilst outdoors in the garden. The children in the babyroom also created their own flags too.

After learning facts we practiced saying 'hello' in different languages. We explored these further at welcome time and repeated these back to our teachers. We sang our ‘good morning Danny go song’ which incorporates a variety of ways to say good morning and hello.

The children made around the world globes and then painted some on the Perspex board in the garden.

We had different discussions about the places we have visited for the day or different countries we have visited on an aeroplane. The pre school children all participated in the conversation this morning.

We learnt some numbers in German too and repeated these back to an adult.

We explored a variety of songs from different countries and explored different ways to move. We used our flipper flappers to create moves as well; such as swaying.
